SB50 SBus-to-SAM System Interface

Texas Memory Systems, Inc.

With the SB50 SBus-to-SAM System Interface, SPARC workstation users canhave 12-MB-per-second access to 256-8192 MB of the high-speed SAM-2memory system. SAM-2 provides a high-speed (200-500 MB per second) I/Oplatform for realtime applications. The multiported SAM-2 works withup to 128 SBus devices. Each SBus system can be up to 1 feet away fromthe SAM system.SB50 is installed in the SBus system and connects, using coaxial or fiberoptic cable, to the C50 interface in the SAM system. Each C50 can connectto up to eight devices, either SBus or VMEbus, so that the SBus productscan share the SAM system with VMEbus products. Software drivers make itpossible to use the SAM system with minimal modification of existingapplications. The SAM system can be mounted as a UNIX file system, so that the networkserver treats it as a very fast RAM disk. It can also be used as a swapspace partitioned to support multiple SBus or VMEbus workstations or as aspecial, multiported, high-speed I/O device. For signal or imageprocessing applications, the SSP-160 array processor can be installed inthe SAM system, adding 160-1280 MFLOPS.
